Liquid Foundation

For some women, they wouldn’t image stepping foot out the door without a carefully applied layer of makeup. Other ones will only apply a little for special events. Many women fall somewhere in-between.

No matter your makeup regime, it will be better for your skin if you start to incorporate more natural cosmetics. You might think that because it is natural it will be more expensive – but that doesn’t have to be the case. Especially if you make your own make up.

Below, you will find a few simple DIY natural make up recipes to get you started with your own natural make up kit.

Powder Foundation

This will take some experimentation to get the colour matched to your skin. Have fun with it!

Base: Arrowroot powder
Colour: Use on, or a combination of, cocoa powder, ground cinnamon or nutmeg.
Optional extra: Jojoba, almond, or olive oil.
Start with the arrowroot powder. If you have fair skin use 1T, if you have dark skin use 1t. Slowly add in your desired colourings until you get the right tone. To make the foundation more like a compact, add some of the oil. Start with 5 drops and mix. Add more (a couple drops at a time) if required.
Bonus tip: Add some zinc oxide for a full spectrum sun protection effect).
Apply with a foundation brush.

Liquid Foundation

Liquid FoundationStart with the powder foundation recipe, without the oil. Add the mix to an organic moisturiser. You may need to add a bit more of the colour to make your powder darker, depending on what cream you use.

This type of foundation will have a light coverage.

Natural Blush

As with the foundation, start with arrowroot powder. Use 1/2t, along with 1/2t cocoa and 1/2t hibiscus powder. Experiment with the quantities of cocoa and hibiscus powder to the desired shade. Store in a jar.
